The Lost Pharoah Tuesday, June 23, 1998 'The Lost Pharoah' is a work of hyperfiction set in Egypt. It's not quite a game, but much more than a standard work of fiction. It's got cool interactive stuff, some nifty art, a bunch of pictures from Egypt, information on ancient Egypt and various archeological sites, and some interesting surprises. I know it's a pretty hefty file and takes a while to download, but if you're interested in Egypt at all, or just want a unique hypercard stack, it's worth...

Let $\mathcal{N}$ be the space of Gaussian distribution functions over $\mathbb{R}$, regarded as a 2-dimensional statistical manifold parameterized by the mean $\mu$ and the deviation $\sigma$. In this paper we show that the tangent bundle of $\mathcal{N}$, endowed with its natural K\"ahler structure, is the Siegel-Jacobi space appearing in the context of Number Theory and Jacobi forms. Geometrical aspects of the Siegel-Jacobi space are discussed in detail (completeness, curvature, group...

Let (M,g) be a compact, connected and oriented Riemannian manifold. We denote D the space of smooth probability density functions on M. In this paper, we show that the Frechet manifold D is equipped with a Riemannian metric g^{D} and an affine connection \nabla^{D} which are infinite dimensional analogues of the Fisher metric and exponential connection in the context of information geometry. More precisely, we use Dombrowski's construction together with the couple (g^{D},\nabla^{D}) to get a...

A quantum system can be entirely described by the K\"ahler structure of the projective space P(H) associated to the Hilbert space H of possible states; this is the so-called geometrical formulation of quantum mechanics. In this paper, we give an explicit link between the geometrical formulation (of finite dimensional quantum systems) and statistics through the natural geometry of the space Pn of non-vanishing probabilities p defined on a finite set En:={x1,...,xn}. More precisely, we use...

Let (M,g) be a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension n. For k \in {0,...,n}, we denote Gr_{k}(M) the set of compact, connected and oriented submanifolds of M of dimension k. This set is called the non-linear Grassmannian. In this article, we endow Gr_{k}(M) with a smooth Fr\'echet manifold structure and investigate its basic geometrical properties. In particular, if \Sigma \in Gr_{k}(M), we show that the space of smooth embeddings Emb(\Sigma,M) is the total space of principal fiber bundle...

Given a principal bundle G \rightarrow P \rightarrow B (each being compact, connected and oriented) and a G-invariant metric h^{P} on P which induces a volume form \mu^{P}, we consider the group of all unimodular automorphisms SAut(P,\mu^{P}):={\varphi\in Diff(P) | \varphi^{*}\mu^{P}=\mu^{P} and \varphi is G-equivariant} of P and determines its Euler equation a la Arnold. The resulting equations turn out to be (a particular case of) the Euler-Yang-Mills equations of an incompressible classical...

In this paper, we generalize the famous Hasimoto's transformation by showing that the dynamics of a closed unidimensional vortex filament embedded in a three-dimensional manifold of constant curvature gives rise under Hasimoto's transformation to the non-linear Schrodinger equation. We also give a natural interpretation of the function \psi introduced by Hasimoto in terms of moving frames associated to a natural complex bundle over the filament.

Exponential families are a particular class of statistical manifolds which are particularly important in statistical inference, and which appear very frequently in statistics. For example, the set of normal distributions, with mean {\mu} and deviation {\sigma}, form a 2-dimensional exponential family. In this paper, we show that the tangent bundle of an exponential family is naturally a Kahler manifold. This simple but crucial observation leads to the formalism of quantum mechanics in its...

This paper extends results from Mike Steel and Amelia Taylor's paper The Structure of Symmetric N-Player Games when Influence and Independence Collide. These games include n causes, which are dichotomous random variables whose values determine the probabilities of the values of n dichotomous effects. We denote the probability spaces that exhibit independence and influence among n players as Ind_n and Inf_n respectively. We define the solution space of the "generalized symmetric tequila...

Let (N,g) be a Riemannian manifold. For a compact, connected and oriented submanifold M of N. we define the space of volume preserving embeddings Emb_{\mu}(M,N) as the set of smooth embeddings f:M \rightarrow N such that f*\mu^{f}=\mu, where \mu^{f} (resp. \mu) is the Riemannian volume form on f(M) (resp. M) induced by the ambient metric g (the orientation on f(M) being induced by f). In this article, we use the Nash-Moser inverse function Theorem to show that the set of volume preserving...

The holes are Approx. 8 mm diameter (1/4"), and the top 2 are spaced at 25 mm (approx. 1"). I've also added holes on the prongs to make it easer to screw into a wall. This was designed using Design Spark Mechanical, and so I've uploaded the RSDoc file as well, for easier re-mixing (eg - change angle to hold thicker files, change spacing of holes, add a 4th...

This article is from Oncogenesis , volume 2 . Abstract The vaccinia-related kinases (VRKs) comprise a branch of the casein kinase family. VRK1, a ser/thr kinase with a nuclear localization, is the most well-studied paralog and has been described as a proproliferative protein. In lower eukaryotes, a loss of VRK1 activity is associated with severe mitotic and meiotic defects. Mice that are hypomorphic for VRK1 expression are infertile, and depletion of VRK1 in tissue culture cells can impair cell...

Let $G$ be a locally compact, compactly generated group of polynomial growth and let $\omega$ be a weight on $G$. Under proper assumptions on the weight $\omega$, the Banach space $L^p(G,\omega)$ is a Banach \ast-algebra. In this paper we give examples of such weighted $L^p$-algebras and we study some of their harmonic analysis properties, such as symmetry, existence of functional calculus, regularity, weak Wiener property, Wiener property, existence of minimal ideals of a given hull.
